Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in and around Manama on Tuesday, calling upon the ruling House of Khalifa to release Sheikh Ali Salman, secretary-general of the Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society. Protesters could be seen waving Bahraini flags and releasing smoke from what appeared to be smoke grenades. Salman’s lawyers report that Bahraini prosecutors have charged him with inciting a change of government by force, inciting hatred of a segment of society, inciting others to break the law, and insulting the Interior Ministry. The Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society has rejected the allegations.
